less than 2 months to go~

by Miss S

hello! its been ages. well, i guess we are just too busy with work and everything else to update here. lol.

so. the prewedding shoot was done & over with (yay!). we shot in Prague, super beautiful city. :) have yet to choose the photos lol, super slow on that. our month long europe trip was nothing short of amazing. we loved the cities we were in, went back to Paris (where Mr G proposed)… hehe. bought my first ever splurge bag in Rome. had amazing gelato there as well. super well-rested in Switzerland. ahhhh how i wish i was back in europe! :(

okay… on to the AD stuff.

we finally contacted our JP for the solemnization. e-filed as well but we aren’t sure if it went through because the ROM website is horrid! gotta remember to check on that tmr.

food-tasting was done as well. overall, the food is good. the service of the staff leaves much to be desired! we would need to speak with our co-ordinator on that. the hotel also had a change of theme decor so we have to settle that as well. the invitation cards are on their printing way… lol. we can collect it next week! guest-list … i dont know yet. lol. headache…

the gowns are back with the bridal shop. also deposited for the kua; which i need to go down by dec to see if i can fit other kuas. lol. also need to make adjustments for the gowns + suit. sigh.

candy table/rom decor! this is the most fun part! i get to do use my creative juices lol. we are doing a lego/colour/vintage-chic theme. sounds complicated right? but actually we (ok ok its me) just chose what we like. G loves lego so we are incorporating that into the look and feel of the wedding. i like the vintage look so we are throwing that in. the candy table basically consists of things we love to eat when we were younger – think hiro cake, old-school lollipops, gem candy biscuits etc. im thinking of doing a bunting for the table because the hotel’s table is glass… abit ugly imo. gonna hunt down a nice tablecloth to put over it. arhhhh so many things to do.

the rom. again, the bunting will be somewhere. lol. we are going to alternate tins of baby’s breath along the aisle. i do hope the hotel has some tiffany chairs for us, else i guess we are stuck with their normal chairs? the ring pillow will be a surprise! :p my idea was to use the decor for the ROM before moving it out to the candy table to be reused so i dont have to do alot of stuff..

i dont really care about the dinner lol. so just using their standard decor.

for the morning, we are still clueless about what the entourage should wear…. -.-”

….

ok i run out of steam to type the rest. basically my brain is just full of stuff i want to do. but zzzz…

Leaving on a jet plane (and train)

2 years

by Miss S

we celebrated our 2 years anniversary with dinner at Taste Paradise. it was a lovely 4 course meal (cold dish starter, shark’s fin soup, some noodles, and cold gelatine dessert). our experience there was okay… it was going very well until one of the waitress served us a noodle dish that was in the more expensive set menu. she hadn’t realised that she gave to us the wrong dish and a group of wait staff was trying to see if they had given wrongly. the table next to us ordered the higher priced menu so it was their noodles. but we didnt know and were about to tuck in when the waitress (a senior one) swooped in and took our noodles away, just saying “oh wrong”. i thought that was really rude! give a proper explanation and apology, not just reach out and grab it just as we were about to stick our chopsticks in!

okay lah, that was the only blah point of the whole experience. otherwise, food was great. the ambiance normal.

anyway, moving along…. we are getting married in less than 7 months! the thought of it fills me with much excitement and the “oh-god-i-have-so-many-things-to-do” syndrome. lol.

2 years, it’s been an amazing 2 years with this wonderful man, my secret ninja, my awesome cheerleader, the best hugger, the greatest lover, my funny boy, the sweetest kisser, my caring boyfriend, amazing fiance, i-want-to-be-with-you-forever-and-ever husband-to-be! we’ve had our ups and downs… thankfully there are more ups and we always got through our downs stronger than before. so i want to dedicate this song to my loving husband-to-be…. it’s not the usual lovey-dovey song.. but here you go:

I don’t love you but I always will
I don’t love you but I always will
I don’t love you but I always will
I always will

I wish you’d hold me when I turn my back
well the less I give the more I get back
your hands can heal, your hands can bruise
I don’t have a choice, but I’d still choose you

Poison & Wine is a musical snapshot about the dichotomy of love – that while it can be the thing that destroys you, it can also be the very same thing that beckons and builds you. This song was our attempt at being as brutally honest about the dangerous and beautiful process of knowing and being known. – Joy Williams, The Civil Wars

I love what is said of the song and of love… “while it can be the thing that destroys you, it can also be the very same thing that beckons and builds you“. and i feel that G has given me so much and more that i don’t know of… so,

thank you baby for an amazing 2 years & many more to come, i always will love you.

A bed of roses… not.

by Mister G

ImageWith the GSS here, we figured it would be a good time to shop around for mattresses. Did some research in forums, and found the following recommendations:

http://www.mattress-centre.com

http://www.aafrenz.com

We’re have narrowed our choices to King Koil, Slumberland, Dunolopilo and 4Stars. Yes, we have left out the popular 3 ‘S’ brands due to obvious reasons – Cost. I don’t find any pleasure in funding a brand’s marketing programs, when my investment should go direct to the product itself.

More reviews to come as we make visits to the cheaper wholesale centers.

bangkok + crown tailor review

by Miss S

we just got back from BKK yesterday night and it was a nice break from work. although to be honest, i don’t think we really had a good rest cuz we were always rushing to go somewhere! short trip, 4D3N. tons of good food. the best was the “zi char” at chinatown. AWESOMEEEE. i am drooling just thinking about it. :p and also, birds’ nest was quite cheap. 200bht for a rather huge bowl with lots of yummy birds’ nest in it. i tabao-ed a packet to have it for breakfast the next day. hahaha.

ok ok. so our main objective was to get G suited up! we already have a suit from Silhouette but that is a metallic grey one, more suitable for night. so we thought to get him an off-white/cream suit for the day. we went to Crown Tailor the moment we touched down (Saturday). selected the colour+fabric for the suit (8000bht) and fabrics for the shirts (options of 1000bht, 1200bht & 1500bht). G got measured, we selected the finishes for the shirts (e.g. types of collars, cuffs etc) and suit (slim cut, vents, number of pockets etc). paid a 50% deposit and were told to come back on Monday for a fitting.

the fitting on Monday went okay. the sleeves of the jacket was not yet done but i guess they wanted G to wear the shirt (which fitted perfectly!) so we can gauge how the jacket will fall. only thing was, we had to wait for the couriers to bring in the shirts which was a waste of time… could have spent it shopping instead of waiting aimlessly. the pants also fit well, except that it was a little long on G so we asked them to alter it. again, then told to come back on Tuesday at 11.30am (our flight back to SG was 7.40pm on the same day).

we went back on Tuesday at about 1+pm. and guess what – the shirts were not there yet! can you imagine if we went at 11.30am and had to wait – i would have flipped the tables. we did tell them we had a flight to catch. so after waiting for 10-20mins+ for the courier (they kept saying it will be here soon), we said we would get some food before coming back. we took our time and headed back to the shop. everything was finally in – with the exception of one shirt (we ordered 3 shirts + 1 suit). the tailor said he does not have the fabric for the 3rd shirt we ordered. we were abit ??? because he could have easily told us on Monday or even on Saturday (we waited for him to call and confirmed that he has the fabric for the suit, given that we wanted a cream colour). so that’s another minus.

anyway, long story short. we tried on the jacket. it was too long and the sleeves were too big on G! i guess it’s a matter of personal preference because we went with our friends who also made a suit and the cut of the sleeves were exactly the same. G needs to grow some major biceps to fit those sleeves lah. so we told them to alter the jacket and ship it back to SG. the tailor first quoted us 800bht for shipping – i felt it was abit too expensive given that we told him exactly what we wanted and they measured G! i don’t get how it still doesn’t fit him lah. and also the shirt that was missing. and the fact that we had to keep coming back. i guess i am fine with that if we had an additional day to spare but we read some great reviews of their fast and accurate turnaround… so i’m a little disappointed.

in the end, we negotiated to split the shipping costs (for the third shirt + jacket) and i got them to make an additional black shirt. since we’re shipping… might as well.

so here’s how G looks!

okay, i am also happy with how the cream suit turned out. it can be a tricky colour so i’m really really pleased that it came out well.

for those TL;DR – Crown had quite decent service. shirts were perfect, no alteration needed. pants was a tad long but nothing the local tailors can’t alter (if it really comes to that). the jacket was well made too, with the exception of the sleeves (too balloony and long). turnaround time was about 3-4days but for suits, i really think that having an extra day would be good. it’s cheap too – we spent about SGD500+ (inclusive of shipping) for 1 suit and 4 shirts.

wedding preps + vendors

by Miss S

we have about 8 months plus to go. so far, we’ve made bookings for all the big vendors required.

Banquet Venue: Grand Park City Hall

AD Photographer: Joseph of Bittersweet Photography

AD Videographer: Yang of Substance Films

Gowns+Suit: Silhouette the Atelier (1 mtm wedding gown + mtm evening gown, 1 mtm suit).

AD Makeup Artist: Joey (from Silhouette)

Wedding Bands: Poh Heng (classic rounded bands in 916 gold)

Then, we need to make decisions for…

- Flowers ( Bridal Bouquet, Grooms’ boutonnière, Parents Corsages, Car Decor)

- Car (we’re hoping to borrow a car from friends… still keeping fingers crossed)

- Kua for tea ceremony

- Entourage attire?

Also, we have to get the parents to meet again to discuss the traditional items (si dian jin etc) so we can put that on our to-buy list. After that, comes the “Save the Date” invites for the ROM ceremony (keeping it intimate)… Then in August, we’re doing our prewedding shoot. And everything happens after that. Gotta settle the guest list by September/October so we can print the invites and send it out by November. Concurrently in November, we gotta have the food tasting + all the loose ends (trial makeup, fitting) + G’s room (be moving to his place after we get married… thats the plan for now).

I have a feeling i’m missing out some things… but i can’t place my finger on it. Oh well.

8 months! Gosh!

Going to the Mattresses

by Mister G

Some friends were making mattress purchases, and this spurred me to do some research. Came across this interesting article, which I think is a good read. :)

love

by Miss S

There is no difficulty that enough love will not conquer;

No disease that enough love will not heal;

No door that enough love will not open;

No gulf that enough love will not bridge;

No wall that enough love will not throw down;

No sin that enough love will not redeem….

It makes no difference how deeply seated may be the trouble,

How hopeless the outlook,

How muddled the tangle,

How great the mistake,

A sufficient realization of love will dissolve it all….
